What is a Labyrinth?

A labyrinth is an ancient geometric pattern that has a single circuitous path leading to the center and out again. These patterned circuits offer a place for people to walk, contemplate, or simply reflect. Not to be confused with a maze, a network of interconnecting pathways with dead ends, a labyrinth is based on a circle, the universal symbol for wholeness and unity. Labyrinths are found in many cultures around the world and date back as far as 3500 years ago. Walking a labyrinth involves the creative and the intuitive mind and can be calming and balancing.
